When I was a student at Manukau Technical Institute back in 1981, 10% of places on the course I was enrolled in were reserved especially for Maori Affairs students. They didn’t need to meet the same entry criteria as everyone else. It’s now 40 years down the track and I would have thought we would be seeing some benefit from prioritising Maori over other ethnicities, but apparently not.
