Against advice and common sense, in the previous term of government Jacinda Ardern announced a ban on oil and gas exploration with no transition period. The Prime Minister got the headlines and praise, but now a few years later New Zealand is paying the price. With no energy transition plan, Jacinda Ardern has been purchasing and importing millions of tonnes of coal from Indonesia. This is worse for the environment than if Ardern not banned oil and gas exploration. We have our own natural resources, but she would rather ship coal from across the world.
