At work today I was talking to a customer. He was a very nice South African guy. He told me he and his family had moved to NZ in December 2020 so that he could take up a role with MBIE. He told me that he had been informed that 35 South African families per month are moving to NZ to take up essential roles.

I have nothing against this man, and he seems like the sort of immigrant that will make a positive contribution and integrate well.

However, I had understood that immigration had all but stopped during the pandemic.

Also, that is 35 families a month from SA alone that will need housing when we allegedly have 40,000 homeless NZers.

It made me wonder what else we aren’t being told.
