Where is the warming?
I was debating with a climate scientist earlier in the year who studied in Otago and has now moved on to a brighter future in the States. We started off debating the validity of Michael Mann’s Tree ring theory which I was flabbergasted to learn was still treated as credible science.
It seems there were some holes in both of our arguments about the legal battle between Michael Mann and Tim Ball. However, the subsequent debate of global temperatures were interesting.
When presented with this graph that shows we are 0.53 degrees above the average my learned friend suggested that the bulk of the warming occurred prior to the 80’s.

Besides being convenient to use sketchy data versus more precise data (i.e. the pre satellite data which the further you go back is less credible) when looking at global trends, it would seem that this pre 80’s “bulk of the warming” theory isn’t backed up by what the scientist were reporting to the media if this 1973 article is anything to go on.

A number of climatologists, whose job it is to keep an eye on long‐term weather changes, have lately been predicting deterioration of the benign climate to which we have grown accustomed. They point to signs both great (a steady global cooling trend since World War II) and quaint (the southward retreat from Nebraska of the warmth‐loving armadillo) to support their claim that the coming years will feature colder, more erratic weather.
Some recent warnings, from reputable researchers in Japan, Europe and the U.S., have so worried policy‐makers that last January certain scientists at a meeting of the National Academy of Sciences proposed the evacuation of some six million people from their parched homelands in the Sahel region of Africa.
The less the climate changes the more we are told it is.
however this isn’t a one off press release check out the following article from 1961

or these

It was even such a concern that scientist proposed colouring the Artic black to warm it up. I shit you not. they wanted to sprinkle black coal dust on the Artic to melt it.

So concerned were they about the cooling that a group of scientists wrote the the President of the United States of America!

Even in the early 80’s we were still facing an ice age.

and more ice ages predicted

You will never guess what the long range forecast experts were saying in 1975…

Even the armadillo had a chatter in his teeth and moved to a warmer climate, and he would know now wouldn’t he

Hang on I think we have found the warming, oh never mind it went again…
